MacBook Air: Yes or No?

The newest offering from Apple, the MacBook Air, is simply a technology marvel. It is thin, light weight, beautiful to look at it (both closed and open), and powerful. As with most offerings from Apple, the masses must have. Who doesn't have an iPod, an iPhone, etc.? Before you go out and spend your hard earned money, there are a few things to take into consideration.

First, by today's standards on computer prices, the MacBook Air is expensive. The latest information from the Apple website reveals the MacBook costs between $1,700 and $3,100 dollars. Other companies offer excellent laptop alternatives for much less. For full pricing details on the MacBook Air, click here...

Want to watch a DVD? In order to do so on the MacBook Air, you will need an external DVD player. If you travel a lot, this means carrying another piece of equipment (sort of defeats the purpose of the light weight Air).

Finally, want to upgrade the hard drive or replace the battery? Well, with the MacBook Air you simply can't. The hard drive, battery and other components of the Air are so specialized and fused onto the systemboard that they cannot be upgraded. Frustrating for the geek in all of us.

So, who is the MacBook Air good for? Ultimately, only you can decide if the Air is in your future. In our humble opinion, this latest MacBook is targeted for the high school/college crowd who need to write papers but want to look great while doing it.
